As TxDOT continues to work on the SH 146 Expansion the Coast Guard has approved the following:
South Channel Blocked - Current through August 23
North Channel Blocked - August 24 through August 25
South Channel Blocked - August 26 through September 9
South Channel Blocked - September 7 through September 19
Please note that throughout August 19-20, TXDOT will have divers in the South channel from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. each day. The North channel will be open to vessel traffic during that time but boaters are to transit the area at a safe speed and give wake and surge considerations. Sector Houston-Galveston will issue a Broadcast Notice to Mariners during those times. The channel will be fully open throughout the high vessel traffic Labor Day Weekend 8 a.m. September 4 - midnight September 7, 2020.
Traffic Plan:
To assist boaters in navigating through the correct channel, chains of red round buoys will be placed delineating the edge of the travel to the open channel, and prevent boaters from entering the closed channel.
During any Coast Guard approved partial channel closure, one way vessel traffic shall switch directions every 5 minutes, upon direction of the red and green traffic signals.
Flaggers on boats will direct traffic during daylight working hours (Monday-Friday and Weekends).
Electronic message boards will be mounted on either side of the channel.
At various times law enforcement assets will be on-scene, to include Galveston County Sheriff's Office, Marine Division, and U.S. Coast Guard, to ensure adherence to the established marine traffic management plan.
